White-footed ants are small, dark ants with pale, whitish feet. They are common in Brisbane and are one of the harder ants to deal with, because a single colony can stretch across many nests in walls, roof spaces, trees, shrubs and garden beds. People often see them trailing along the outside of the house, up downpipes and across window frames.
They feed on sweet liquids, especially the honeydew made by sap-sucking insects on garden plants. Workers do not share food the way many other ants do, so baits can take longer to spread through the colony.
